Ahead of its February 2 premiere, Matthew Vaughn's spy thriller Argylle is being met with criticism from animal advocates who fear the film's release will increase the desire for ownership of Scottish Fold cats. The unique-looking breed is characterized by a dominant gene mutation associated with osteochondrodysplasia, affecting the body's cartilage. This mutation is responsible for the Scottish Folds' appearance but is also the cause of severe painful degenerative joint diseases for the felines. Because of this, breeding Scottish Fold cats is not allowed in countries including the Netherlands, Austria, and Norway.
